Description

Cooper Flagg's path to the NBA ran through Maine, not the usual prep-school pipeline. He was named Maine's Gatorade Player of the Year as a freshman after leading Nokomis Regional to a state title, then transferred to Montverde Academy in Florida, reclassified to graduate a year early, and enrolled at Duke while still only 17. He turned 18 that December, still the youngest player on the floor most nights, and it made no difference: he averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.4 steals across 37 games, shooting 48% from the floor, and swept the sport's major individual honors, including the Wooden and Naismith Awards, while leading Duke to a 35-4 record and a Final Four appearance.

The Mavericks' route to him was its own kind of upheaval. Dallas traded franchise star Luka Doncic to the Lakers in a stunning February deal that outraged its fan base, then, with just a 1.8% chance in the lottery, jumped to the No. 1 pick anyway. In June 2025 they made Flagg the first overall selection, handing an 18-year-old the job of restoring stability to a franchise that had just given away its face.

He did not ease into it. Flagg started all 70 games he played as a rookie in 2025-26, averaging 21.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.9 blocks, and became the first rookie since Michael Jordan in 1984-85 to lead his own team outright in points, rebounds, assists and steals in the same season. He posted the first 50-point game by a teenager in NBA history, added a 45-point night, and led all rookies in games of 25, 30, 35 and 40-plus points. None of it translated into wins — Dallas finished 26-56, missing the playoffs for a second straight year, and Flagg himself was sidelined late in the season by an ankle injury — but the individual season was decisive enough that he was named NBA Rookie of the Year and to the All-Rookie First Team, joining Doncic and current Mavericks coach Jason Kidd as the only players in franchise history to win the award.

This card is Flagg's true rookie card, issued in 2025-26 Topps Chrome as part of the chromium Activators insert set, numbered AC-11, the same year he was drafted first overall and turned in the historic rookie campaign described above. It captures him at the very beginning of a career that arrived with more hype, more scrutiny, and — so far — more statistical company with Michael Jordan than almost any rookie in modern NBA history.
