Description

Paige Bueckers arrived at UConn as the most decorated recruit in program history, and her freshman year lived up to it: she averaged 20 points, 4.9 rebounds and 5.8 assists a game, becoming the first freshman ever to win the Wooden Award, the Naismith Trophy, the AP Player of the Year and the USBWA Player of the Year. That freshman burst set an impossibly high bar, and the four years that followed tested her as much as any player in the sport. A tibial plateau fracture and meniscus tear wiped out more than half of her sophomore season, and four months after returning she tore her ACL in a pickup game, costing her the entire 2022-23 campaign. Even after she came back, UConn's roster kept absorbing season-ending injuries around her, and Bueckers reached three Final Fours without ever getting over the top. Her fifth and final year at Storrs finally closed the gap. In her last college game, Bueckers scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds as UConn routed defending champion South Carolina 82-59 to win the program's first national title since 2016, a game she later called the product of "resilience, of gratitude, of adversity, of overcoming adversity." She left college as UConn's all-time leading scorer on a per-game basis and declared for the WNBA draft with that one missing accolade finally in hand. Dallas selected her first overall in the 2025 WNBA Draft, and her rookie season turned into one of the most statistically loaded debuts the league has seen. Bueckers averaged 19.2 points, 5.4 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals while shooting 47.4 percent from the field, numbers that made her the first rookie in WNBA history to hit at least 15 points, 5 assists and 45 percent shooting in a season. On August 20 against the Sparks she dropped 44 points on 17-of-21 shooting, a WNBA rookie scoring record and the first 40-point, 80-percent-shooting game in league history. She did all of it while the Wings endured a 10-34 season marked by injuries and roster turnover, steadying a chaotic locker room as a 23-year-old. Voters took notice: she collected 70 of 72 first-place votes for 2025 Rookie of the Year, was named Rookie of the Month three straight times, and started for Team Collier at the All-Star Game. This card comes from 2025 Panini Prizm WNBA, the flagship release that introduced Bueckers as a professional and anchors her now-sprawling rookie-card rainbow. Card No. 14 places her in the Kaleidoscopic parallel/insert checklist, one of the set's numbered chase tiers built around the WNBA's most hyped incoming class. It captures her in the same year she went from a five-year, injury-interrupted college story with a storybook ending to the unanimous choice as the best rookie in the league.
