Description
This card is not Caitlin Clark's rookie issue — that came a year earlier, in 2024 Panini Prizm, the set that captured her record-shattering debut season. This 2025 Panini Prizm WNBA card (#22) pictures her in an Indiana Fever uniform during her sophomore year, a season that opened with huge expectations and instead became a test of how much adversity a career-defining talent can absorb. Clark arrived in the WNBA as the No. 1 overall pick in 2024 after leaving the University of Iowa as college basketball's all-time leading scorer. At the collegiate level, Clark left the University of Iowa as the NCAA Division I all-time leading scorer, surpassing Kelsey Plum, finishing her career with 3,951 points, and also holding the NCAA Division I record for field goals made, three-pointers made and points per game. Her rookie year with Indiana turned into one of the most record-laden debut seasons in league history. Clark set a WNBA single-season record with 337 assists, and also established WNBA single-season rookie records of 769 points and 122 three-pointers made. In July, she became the first rookie in WNBA history to ever put up a triple-double, and she went on to win the 2024 Kia WNBA Rookie of the Year award. The 2025 season, pictured on this card, told a very different story. After a blistering start — she was averaging a career-high 24.3 points and 9 assists across the first four games of the season — Clark was derailed by a cascade of soft-tissue injuries. Her sophomore season was derailed by injuries: she only played 13 times due to a left quad strain that kept her out for three weeks, a left groin injury that sidelined her for two weeks and now a right groin injury. In September she announced she would not return for the remainder of the season, telling fans "I spent hours in the gym every day with the singular goal of getting back out there, disappointed isn't a big enough word to describe how I am feeling." In the 13 games she did play, she still put up 16.5 points, five rebounds, 8.8 assists, and 1.6 steals per game, shooting 36.7 percent from the field and 27.9 percent from three — productive, but a season defined as much by what was lost as what was gained. Even sidelined, Clark remained the sport's biggest draw. She was named a captain of the 2025 All-Star Game hosted in her home arena of Gainbridge Fieldhouse, receiving more than 1.2 million All-Star votes, the most of any player, for the second consecutive season, though a re-aggravated groin injury kept her from actually playing in the game. By season's end her career line already placed her among the Fever's all-time leaders: in two seasons Clark had entered the all-time franchise record books, sitting seventh in assists (452) and eighth in three-pointers made (151). This Prizm issue captures that second-season version of Clark — no longer the sensational newcomer of 2024, but a player whose absence shaped the WNBA's biggest season at the box office as much as her presence did. For collectors, it sits alongside the 2024 rookie cards as a companion piece documenting the harder, messier chapter of a career that began with near-unanimous acclaim.
